Source: There are two sides to this character. The character that I created, and the character that my friend created. I created a character to represent "my Sonic friend", and my friend created to represent himself. It's the same character, because my friend I'm referring to is my Sonic friend. The version of the character that I had initially designed was always meant to look a lot like a humanized Sonic, while the version my friend created was meant to just look like himself. BUT, his version of the character and all the ideas he has that goes into the character, by sheer coincidence, boil down to the base idea of a very Sonic-like character. He's a free-spirit who goes on crazy adventures, and he's like an embodiment of chaos. One key thing that separates him from Sonic is that he's crazy.... but being "crazy" isn't really enough to separate from Sonic because madness goes with the concept of chaos and Sonic's attitude too well. Between all my other characters and the people they're based on, there's always more than just "Shadow" or "Silver" or "Amy" or "Knuckles" or whatever, but in this case, it's just "Sonic + a crazier Sonic". Turning my friend's version of his character, the one that I said looks more like his IRL self, into a Sonic character and rehumanizing that, just results in a guy that looks and acts just like Sonic. Any other little details I add don't really matter in the end, because the base design and personality and overall concept is not different enough from Sonic. My design philosophy for the character looking like Sonic is one thing, but everything about my friend and his way of doing things have too much of a Sonic vibe to make any real difference when I apply it all to my design. And every time I've been showing him each redesign I make, all he says nowadays is that it looks too much like Sonic. But that's only because I'm basing a character off of a VERY Sonic-like person!
