Old-fashioned japanese naming order help
Hey there, I just put up aliases for all the windows Touhou characters that switch Eastern name order to Western name order. This was to help myself in part--I'm so used to tagging/searching the other way around I don't want to screw up a bunch of pictures with thoughtless tagging. Also, I accidentally tapped enter and put up the incomplete alias "kasodani_kyouko-->kyouko", this should be "kasodani_kyouko-->kyouko_kasodani", which I also submitted. Sorry!
Anyways, I have a question regarding traditional Japanese naming order, i.e. old-fashioned/"noble" names in which the family name is followed by the possesive particle "no," i.e. "Fujiwara no Mokou," "Toyosatomimi no Miko," "Watatsuki no Yorihime," etc. Should the "no" be dropped in a switch to Western naming order, i.e. "mokou_fujiwara," or should the original order be maintained in these cases? I don't think keeping the "no" if the order is switched is acceptable, as it is a grammatical particle and changes the meaning of the name ("Fujiwara no Mokou"="Mokou of the Fujiwara," hence "Mokou no Fuijwara" would mean "Fujiwara of the Mokou".) Discarding the "no" for a Western name order gets rid of a little bit of the original flavor, in my opinion, but it's inconsistent with Hypnobooru's chosen naming scheme. Thoughts?

I'll look over the aliases - thanks for those. And I'll keep an eye out for that one you mentioned goofing on.

As for your question, I'd just remove the "no". I hear you with the whole original flavor thing, but it's that or leave it in the Eastern naming order, and it would be a bit inconsistent to leave it Eastern.

The Touhou wiki, which puts almost every character's name in Western name order, still has Mokou's name as "Fujiwara no Mokou" (same with the other characters mentioned). So, I was just going to leave their names like that, honestly.

Yes, you told me last night, at least 8 hours after I made that post. :P

I'm in favor of making an exception for the "___ no ___" names.

MAN I wish these posts were dated better. :P

So you want them to be posted normally then, rather than western order?

*later, after further conversation with Mindwipe*
Okay, it's official.

"Yeah, I think those should stay in Eastern order. If it's good enough for the wiki, it's good enough for me."

That's that. The "___ no ___" names shall stay in Eastern naming orders.
