how do we both post and view "child posts"?

Well basically if you look to the left of the image, you will find the picture's ID numbers. Just copy those and in the edit option under the picture of whatever image you want to make into a child post, put them in the parent slot.
As for veiwing them, well usually pictures with child posts are given links to said child posts at the top of the page as "Child Posts."
