What kind of things do you find hypnotic?
Just out of boredom I thought I might ask people a little about themselves. Please avoid saying obvious things like pendulums spirals and ANY part of a women.

Thanks.

I find lava lamps to be mesmerizing. They have a certain glow about them that's relaxing and I find I stare at them for lengthy periods of time. That and ceiling fans...

Aww...

Music, I guess. The more melodic, the more entrancing.

Some people's voices. I can just sit and listen to some people talk, whether it be me paying attention, or them in the background. Combine it with music, and you got win. Take Matt Tuck from Bullet for my Valentine for instance, I love his voice. Along with M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold, and Basshunter for some examples.

Another thing is windchimes. I love windchimes, especially if they have a really sweet and I guess almost cute sound to them. I can sleep easily while listening to one, and I used to have one in my bedroom near my window. The wind coming through would cause it to 'dance', and it did help me sleep.

I find Pendulums boring, and spirals headache inducing too. So I'll tend to avoid them XD Just throwing that in 'cause you said not to mention them lol.

Honestly it's a clear sky that's hypnotic for me. When I stare at it long enough, I can feel how empty it actually is and I start to lose myself in it.

Seriously: Fire, water, and big numbers. Mix them together you got a sunset.

Not seriously: Barbarella, the film as a whole puts me in a trance-like state.

By what definition of "hypnotic"?

From some of the definitions here, which seem to focus on "stuff that makes you feel fuzzy and cozy", then I'd say the rain is a big one for me. The sound of the rain is one of the prettiest things to listen to, good not only for deep relaxation, but even for mild one, like thinking calmly about something.

Showers are also nice for the same reason; warm and soft whispers too, and anything that involves "background noise", which seems to be a common pattern.

Another pattern is "feeling in a vacuum", be it by looking at the sky (I love grey, homogenous skies in particular), being immersed by water, or anything of the like.

Where I live birds come by a lot, and I love listening to the various sounds they make, it's very nice for some reason.

And I second that pendulums, spirals and weird flashy things with leds are more annoying than mesmerizing.
