well, it is jokerization.... and, on another level, whole most of us no doubt feel differently, mind control itself has an underlying creepy element to it, and most people I know are creeped out by it - personally, I always enjoyed the dual ideas of loss of personal control, and the ability to dominate others

As Grim said, MC is nearly always creepy at its core.
Although there are a few pieces of art that I've seen over the years where it's more about enhancing a relationship between people who already love each other. Less about dominance and submission and more about mutual trust.
It's not very popular though.

I would love to see more work in that vein, tbh. I realize it's not as "exciting" as taking over an unwilling/unsuspecting person, but... I don't know... I find romance sexy sometimes.

The lack of those works is a Thing in BDSM works as well (though you could well argue that most mind control is an extension of BDSM). So much of it is just downright mean-spirited. Part of it is probably from sadism/masochism conflated with dominance/submission, which I've never really understood, but even straight bondage stuff usually has an uncaring edge.
